The National Police Firearms Training Curriculum, which came into use in late 2004, introduced a new record keeping requirement for Police Firearms Training Units. Our well established TROP Training Records software has been enhanced to handle these new requirements, now known as TROP 4.
The NPFTC has a hierarchical structure of Modules, Units and Outcomes. In TROP 4 we combine the labeling of the first two levels, so we refer to A1.1, A1.2, etc. Within each Unit there may be any number of Outcomes, varying between 1 and 19 for different Units.
TROP 4 allows for the recording, within each officer’s record, of any number of occasions when any Outcome is studied. The date, result, Instructor’s collar number and, if required, refresher date can be recorded.
It is easy to see at a glance the current state of an officer’s progress through the Curriculum, and a printed report is also available showing all occasions when they have studied a Unit.
For management purposes a summary screen shows upcoming refresher dates, which may be sorted in date order, Unit order, or by officer’s name.
Recognising that not every officer will necessarily be studying every Unit, TROP 4 provides an easy way to only import the required Units into an officer’s record. In this way we avoid overloading the system with many unwanted records. This is based on creating a series of ‘Role Templates’. As an AFO may be trained for a number of roles, it is important that we do not have any overlaps when importing the NPFTC content into a given officer’s record.
In 2007 we also added a facility for a bulk upgrade of NPFTC data following completing of a course or training day. At the outset the modules, units and outcomes being studied are set up, and a list of officers attending the training is also created. At the click of a button all outcomes are updated for all attending officers, thus saving a great deal of record keeping time.
TROP 4 continues to provide the well known ‘Authorisations’ records outside the NPFTC module, which are now only used for the results of regular classification shoots.
A demonstration copy of TROP 4 is available to UK Police Forces, together with an on-screen audio visual presentation which introduces the use of each section of the software. Click here to request a copy, or download one now from our AV Demos page.
