PETS Police Exhibits Tracking System is software for control of evidence exhibits, written primarily for the RAF Police and in use in all UK RAF Police Regions. Versions are available to other forces.
PETS has been designed with a high level of security. Once an exhibit has been entered in the system users are unable to delete or edit the record. Two levels of logging into PETS are provided - system administrators and ordinary users. Only the system administrator, who will normally be the Regional Exhibits Officer, can book items out from, and back to, the exhibit store. All users can view the booking history of an exhibit, all of whose records are filed on a case by case basis.
PETS generates lists of exhibit items, with a flag against any that are currently out of the store, for the purpose of supervisors' random checks of the store. Records are maintained for any type of exhibit, including items that may be located in specialist stores, such as armouries, etc.
All the necessary documentation is produced at the click of a button when the time comes to destroy, return or otherwise dispose of unwanted exhibits. The appropriate forms must be used for authority to destroy drugs.
